Holy Rosary Parish has been served by the Oblate Missionaries of Mary Immaculate who were founded in France in 1816 by St. Eugene de Mazenod.

The 19th century, as is known in the history of Poland, was a time when Polish people did not have an independent homeland. Among the Oblates who had arrived in Canada in 1841 to preach Christ's Gospel in an immense country were also Polish missionaries who belonged, out of necessity, to the German Province of St. Mary's. In this group of pioneers were two brothers, John and Paul Kulawy and Antoni Sylla. They were stationed in Winnipeg and from there were dispatched to the West where they reached Southern Alberta in order to serve the spiritual and religious needs of the Polish settlers. Their work was the beginning of several Polish parishes in the Province of Alberta such as Bankhead, Round Hill, Rabbit Hill, Flat Lake, Coleman, to name a few. In the beginning of the 20th century there was also a need to organize a religious center for our Polish nationals whose numbers were increasing in the Edmonton area. Thanks to the efforts of Father Paul Kulawy, on the first of August 1913, Bishop Emil Legal canonically installed Holy Rosary Parish to serve the Polish community. The first pastor of this parish was Father Paul Kulawy. After him Father Antoni Sylla served here for 5 years. However, due to a lack of personnel, the Oblates were forced in 1927 to transfer the ministering of Holy Rosary to diocesan priests who worked here for 35 years.

In 1956 a separately administered order named Assumption Province was created from the German Oblate Province of St. Mary's. In 1961, from this Assumption Province, the Oblates returned to Holy Rosary Parish and have been ministering since then to the spiritual needs of this parish.
