Fr. Mieczysław Burdzy, OMI (2017-2023)

Father Mieczysław was born on January 7, 1970 in Nisko, in the province of Tarnobrzeg (now Podkarpackie). The fourth of five siblings, Father Mieczysław has three brothers and a sister. in 1991, after graduating from an electro-mechanical technical school, he emigrated to North America. After seven years of various experiences and contacts with the American and Canadian reality, in 1997 he entered the Pre-novitiate of the Missionary Oblates and a year later, in September 1998, he was admitted to the OMI Novitiate at Święty Krzyż. In 1999, after meeting the requirements of the novitiate, he made his first religious vows. He returned to Canada to study, successfully completing the philosophy and theology program at Newman Theological College in Edmonton and at St. Paul in Ottawa. The studies were accompanied by religious formation in the Oblate Scholasticate of St. Charles Borromeo. He made his perpetual vows as a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate on December 8, 2004 in Ottawa. He was ordained a deacon on December 18, 2005, at the Holy Rosary Parish in Edmonton, and was ordained a priest on May 20, 2005, at St. Maximilian Kolbe in Mississauga, by Bishop Douglas Crosby OMI. The first religious obedience delegated him to the Province of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Canada, and the first parish of Father Mieczysław was the parish of St. Maximilian Kolbe in Mississauga. After two years, in 2007, he was sent to the parish of St. Jacek in Ottawa as the administrator of the parish. Another obedience of O Mieczysław in 2008 was the Catholic Youth Studio in Toronto, where the religious superiors directed him to run a radio program, edit the Family magazine, and animate cultural and evangelization events. in 2009, Father Mieczysław was assigned to the parish of the Holy Spirit in Winnipeg as a vicar. After two years, in 2011, another religious obedience directed him to the parish of St. Eugene de Mazenod in Brampton as one of the two vicars, and a year later, the Father Provincial of the Assumption Province directed him to a two-year ministry as director of pastoral care of vocations, especially in institutions served by Polish Oblates. In 2014, he was appointed pastor at St. Henry in Melville, SK, and since September 1, 2017, as pastor of Holy Rosary Parish in Edmonton. Father Mieczysław spends his free time in the bosom of nature, occasionally playing golf, tennis, skiing, swimming in the pool, playing the guitar, or simply taking a refreshing walk. Father Mieczysław assures about constant prayer and asks for it as well. From September 2023 on a year of Sabbatical Studies.
